Last year Annie Caulfield who wrote 3 Radio plays for us at Absolutely very sadly died of cancer. The BBC, as a tribute to Annie, have put her fantastic anarchic 90 min drama, first broadcast on Radio 3, ‘Glass Chair Chair Glass’ on Radio 4 Extra and it is available to listen to for the next 7 days.
The play is about an imagined meeting between Tommy Cooper and Eugene Ionesco in Paris and features an amazing cast- Russ Abbott, Harriet Walter, Emily Bruni, Alan Corduner and Hugh Ross. Annie brilliantly tells this complex, funny and moving tale and in amongst it all manages several doffs of her cap to the style and ingenuity of Ionesco.
It was one of those amazing productions where a brilliant piece of writing and an incredible cast all came under the guidance of a fantastic director, Marilyn Imrie. The result is one of the productions I am most proud of and a really fitting tribute to a prodigious writing talent so sadly lost to us in her prime.
